The active physics stack behind SailEdge™ by SailrScience and FleetEdge™ by SailrScience — one physics engine behind ORC and IRC analysis across the portfolio: 11,207 boats analyzed within a 12,965-boat governed corpus; 9,591 ORC boats scored. 907+ model equations; 850,000+ physics evaluations per certificate; 18.4 million per Optimal Map. Certificate-preserving: the ORC baseline is the anchor, never the casualty.

The engine’s treatment of righting moment, depower, and rated sail changes follows a documented study of ORC’s published VPP standards, so what SailrScience delivers stays aligned to the principles each certificate already follows.

The engine reads the ORC certificate and presents it in a clear, mobile-friendly view, recreating the certificate’s rigging features and rated sails as a working model of the boat. That twin is where the what-if work happens: new sails and appendage changes explored against the certificate-anchored model, within its stated confidence — before a sail is purchased or a naval architect work order is written.

Where the wind’s force acts on every sail — computed, not assumed. From the rated sail data on the certificate, the engine derives per-sail drive and centroid decomposition and resolves it into combined center-of-effort positioning across sails, wind speeds, and heel states. Hydro Model

Righting moment and heel behavior at real sailing angles — calculated from our synthetic KN and KG hydrostatics, built on the DSYHS hull library and grounded in the boat’s ORC certificate. To our knowledge, a first in the ORC (as of August 2026). Every result carries a stated confidence grade; where the evidence cannot support a boat, the engine refuses and states why.

Priority basis: our review of publicly available ORC-facing tooling and published VPP practice as of August 2026 found no certificate-derived hydrostatic stability synthesis in public use.

Sailing States

The newest R16 layer: Certificate-Derived Righting Moment, Modeled Depower, and Rated Sail Change. Working the principles ORC publishes for its VPP — from the certificate alone — the engine reports the state behind every stability result: balanced naturally, balanced after modeled depower, balanced after a modeled sail change from the boat’s rated inventory, or honestly outside the modeled envelope. Every state is graded or refused. Named in the certificate-derived-stability patent scope at capability level.

Performance archetypes

Boats compared by what they are, not just what they rate. Measure the analyzed fleet the same way — one method for every boat — and eight kinds of boat keep showing up (resolved by the 2026 census). We call them performance archetypes: each answers three practical questions — how the boat makes speed, where it pays across the wind range, and what it demands of the crew. Validated across 11,207 boats analyzed within a 12,965-boat governed corpus; 9,591 ORC boats scored (July 2026). MPAE extends ORC-grade physics into the IRC fleet: IRC boats matched by hull geometry — 2,400+ certificates matched, a 93% match rate — inherit the full physics profile, every match provenance-labeled. Fleet-scale analysis

PPI & Crew Execution

Race results decomposed into three readable parts: the modeled boat contribution, the condition context, and the execution-associated residual that remains. Across repeated observations that residual is a diagnostic signal — not a causal measurement of any single crew action. The Performance Potential Index and its crew-execution residual are computed against a weather-enriched race archive spanning 20+ nations — the fleet-scale expression of the same engine that models one boat. Published through FleetEdge.

Authorship

Research is authored and operated by the research arm of SailrScience — the custodian of the IP. The business arm ships the work commercially through SailEdge, FleetEdge, the partner program, and the services tier.

The split is structural, not stylistic. Research output is authored under its own methodology, provenance, and limitation controls — engine results carry a stated confidence grade, published figures carry their basis, and where the evidence cannot support a claim, the engine refuses. The commercial surfaces consume that output; they never edit it.

Patent disclosure

SailrScience holds three US provisional patent filings. The first, USPTO docket 0325-0001PR, was filed 2026-03-05 and covers the SailEdge claim scope — certificate-anchored digital-twin physics, including per-sail force and centroid decomposition, combined center-of-effort positioning, and Edge Map delta computation. The second, USPTO docket 0325-0002PR (application 64/093,531), was filed 2026-06-18 and covers the FleetEdge claim scope — weather-conditioned fleet analytics and performance decomposition. The third, USPTO docket 0325-0003PR (application 64/127,583), was filed 2026-08-07 and covers the certificate-derived-stability claim scope. This disclosure summarizes the filings without releasing claim language verbatim. Provisional filings are not granted patents; they preserve filing-date precedence and inform the subsequent prosecution. IP custody sits with the research arm.
